Asked if he believed he had been a target, Trump did not directly respond, instead focusing on the content of the “radicalized” suspect’s manifesto. 

A law enforcement official told Reuters that the suspect had written an anti-Christian manifesto, in which he called himself the “Friendly Federal Assassin.”

Spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in Washington, Tal Naim, said she was sitting about 200 meters from the stage and heard “shouting and a great deal of panic.”

Condemnations poured in from Israel and several other countries following the attack at a Washington DC hotel, as well as expressions of relief that no US officials were harmed.

Authorities have identified the suspected gunman as Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old male from California, CNN reported, citing multiple law enforcement officials briefed on the incident.

The attack occured at approximately 2 p.m. near the food court in the mall, city police said. Five suspects are in police custody.

According to NBC, the shooting occured as a result of a domestic dispute. Ten children were shot in total, ranging in age from 1 to 14.
