The National Government has now ordered the incorporation of these chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood into the Public Registry of Persons and Entities Linked to Acts of Terrorism and their Financing.

The move, which Washington formally set in motion last November, will bring sanctions against one of the Arab world's oldest and most influential Islamist movements.

Recent years have indicated that the Muslim Brotherhood's ideology is becoming increasingly more influential in the UK, with several student groups maintaining links with the UAE-proscribed group.

"The UAE will not send its students to become hostages of Islamist jihadist ideology disguised as campus activism," said Emirati Expert in Strategic and Political Affairs, Amjad Taha.
