Alon later launched federal proceedings against the US prison authorities, and argued that her incarceration in a men's prison and the treatment she received violated her rights.

Police had earlier confirmed an attack on worshippers in the area but said they could not verify the number of people abducted.

“For 911 days, we have been waiting and hoping for our daughter Haymanot to return,” they wrote. “Today, Israel Police has no information, direction, or theory as to what happened to our daughter.”

This is the latest incident of mass kidnapping in a region plagued by violent gangs. Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun says that no lives have been lost while security teams assess rescue operations.
