Chef Yossi Shitrit, one of the most prominent names in the Israeli culinary scene, is returning to Tel Aviv and opening a new restaurant called BERTA, located in Ramat Aviv Mall. The move comes after about two years during which he operated outside the city center, joining the ongoing trend of chef-driven restaurants entering commercial complexes and offering a more accessible dining experience to a wider audience.

Shitrit, who recently also took part in the Passover edition of the show Come Dine with Me, is now returning to the culinary spotlight with a restaurant he defines as a combination of a meticulous chef’s kitchen and an everyday dining experience.

The new restaurant is located on the restaurant floor of Ramat Aviv Mall, but unlike the typical food court format, it is a full restaurant space that includes separate seating areas, a bar facing an open kitchen, and a central taboon oven from which some of the dishes are served.

The culinary concept of BERTA is based on Italian-Mediterranean cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh fish, pasta, and dishes from the taboon oven. Alongside new dishes, Shitrit has chosen to incorporate some of his signature creations from the past, including his iconic cauliflower salad, a fish skewer from the taboon with preserved lemon vinaigrette, and spaghetti with lemon and pistachios.

According to him, the main idea behind the restaurant is to create a place that maintains the standards of a chef’s kitchen while remaining accessible in both experience and pricing, one that can become a “home” for regular customers rather than just a destination for special occasions.
