An alternative Indpendence Day ceremony and rising internal divisions expose a troubling reality: Israel’s unity seems tied to crisis, not peace.

"When a regime... takes away the lives of other people unjustly, then obviously that is something that should be condemned," Pope Leo said during a press conference.

The regime appears to be trying to prevent a widespread outbreak of protests by reinforcing its presence on the ground, according to Effi Banai, a lecturer and researcher of social networks.
