For decades, Iran has targeted and killed Americans and US allies. Its proxies took hostages. It attacked ships in the Gulf of Oman. Now, America is responding.

The massive ship is more than a platform for launching aircraft: it's a technological fortress designed to project American power anywhere in the world.

"The Iranian regime must stop taking hostages and release all Americans unjustly detained in Iran," Rubio said, as Trump states he is "not happy" with the negotiations.

Iranian officials couched their proposal in maximalist terms - not the language of a party intent on genuine breakthrough agreements but one of a regime intent on extracting breathing room.

A deal would also have to require thorough accounting for Iran's stock of enriched uranium. Any doubts about that could trigger a new conflict.

These are important talks and come amid tensions between the US and Iran.

The talks are expected to determine whether there is still a path to an agreement between Tehran and Washington, or whether the likelihood of a US military strike will rise significantly.

The statement comes after Germany's foreign minister declared that Iran must end support for its proxies Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, advising the Iranians to engage "constructively" in Geneva.
