The luxury David Kempinski Hotel has already established its physical location (facing the sea, of course) in Tel Aviv, its status (luxurious, even more obvious) in the city and in the entire country, and even its passion for food, and breakfast in particular (yes, one of the best in the world). Now the time has come to place another stamp on this table of achievements—literally.
Katzir is the hotel’s new restaurant, recently opened on its ground floor. It offers 70 seats indoors, 80 more outdoors, and a location just a touch away from the promenade and two touches from the water, yet right next to what’s happening in the global hospitality scene.
The promise: A kosher and sophisticated culinary destination “celebrating Israeli heritage through a contemporary lens,” drawing inspiration from tradition (in its name, but not only) “and from the eternal connection between food, land, and culture.”
What’s on the menu? The seasonal menu was created by British-Israeli Daniel Raymond, under the guidance of the hotel’s chef, Mor Cohen, with the aim of honoring local agriculture, implementing farm-to-table in a sophisticated way, and avoiding stereotypes about kosher food. There will be a division into small dishes (“tweezers, plate, and spoon”), large plates, and a “limited edition” category with signature dishes.
Among other things, you’ll find Arava tomatoes with basil oil and olive crumble (NIS 48–76), Shula and citrus crudo (NIS 64–98), “Jaffa fishermen’s fritter” with tomato sauce and caraway oil (NIS 72), veal tongue with local wasabi, lamb tartare, sweetbreads with almond tahini (NIS 108), anchovies meshwiya, Dan River trout with lemon-arak vinaigrette (NIS 168), smoked chicken with curly fries and a sunny-side-up egg (NIS 142), prime rib with vegetables from the taboon (NIS 84 per 100 grams), Israeli wagyu fillet with foie gras mousse (NIS 468), as well as lamb chops with cabbage stuffed with wild rice, fava beans, and peas.
What’s to drink? A menu of glasses, cocktails, and mixes based on blue-and-white (Israeli) spirits, including Tinkers vodka from Jerusalem, Israeli gin, and two whiskey barrels aged exclusively for Katzir.
