In the letter to Netanyahu, seen by Reuters and signed by 45 of the Senate's 47-member Democratic caucus, the lawmakers noted increasing levels of "fatal violence by settlers."

The West Bank has been the site of several violent outbreaks in recent weeks at several flashpoints, including Kusra and Gilad Farm near Nablus, as well as Yatta and Sa'ir near Hebron. 

"The world no longer sees Israel as a genuine democracy – there is nothing democratic about depriving others of their rights and land," an open letter from the ambassadors read.

Furthermore, UKLFI puts forward the argument that bans on trade could "harm the very Palestinian population it is supposedly intended to assist."

A spokesperson for the US State Department spoke to N12 News later on Friday, saying that the US government "does not support annexation."

"The decision by the Israeli government to publish bid offers for construction projects within the framework of the E1 settlers' project is unacceptable," said a joint statement.

Katz did not clear the issue with a number of top relevant IDF authorities before making the announcement, to the extent that until a meeting on Monday.

The Kusra siege has drawn rare US criticism and intensified debate over Israel’s failure to restrain violent factions as the government considers transferring civilian law enforcement from the IDF.

The outpost, known as Givat Or Yehuda, was reportedly the site of a violent incident three months earlier, which Army Radio cited as the reason for Monday's evacuation.
