In many ways, the era that the former emir presided over was a very different Middle East. Against the grain of the time, he was able to position Qatar as a key state in the region.

Iran says talks with Oman focused on Strait of Hormuz traffic

The US military launched fresh strikes on Iran after it struck a container ship on Sunday, while Tehran said it had again closed the Strait of Hormuz and escalated attacks on US facilities.

Former emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, dies at 74

Also on Sunday, the IRGC said it struck and disabled a second vessel in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted the US strategic air base at Al Udeid in Qatar with ballistic missiles.

Oman seeks dual-route Strait of Hormuz deal as Trump demands Iran admit ship attacks

Notably, Iran and Oman are reportedly discussing a potential statement on opening a “median lane” in the Strait of Hormuz for free and full movement, Axios reported.

Qatar vetoes Volkswagen deal with Israeli defense company Rafael in Germany - report

Qatari Investment Authority reportedly opposed plans to manufacture Iron Dome components at Volkswagen’s struggling Osnabrück plant.

Volkswagen had previously slated the plant to close in 2027, though the company is now in talks with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to retool the plant and produce components for the "Iron Dome" missile defence system. The shift would save the factory's 2,300 jobs.
