Kibbutz Be'eri

To Israel’s politicians, who have time and time again since the war began thwarted blame – show some humility. This is at least in part on your heads.

The disaster at Be’eri is a symbol of the state in general; It represents what will happen if the country continues down a path of arrogance and complacency.

Our leadership must learn to be less arrogant, but the world must also understand the complexity and trauma we face. 

The IDF concluded that the hostage situation occurring was unprecedented and that, under the unique circumstances, none of the officials involved, including Hiram, had made errors.

While the IDF probes are a significant start in helping the nation move beyond October 7, until there is a state inquiry, it is unlikely that the nation will be able to fully turn the page.

Some of the questions still not answered in the probe, according to members of Be'eri, include, "Why did numerous military forces gathered at the gate of the kibbutz not enter?"

The investigation into the Be'eri battle reveals systemic failures in IDF preparation and command. Senior officers criticize it as "consciousness engineering" and call for accountability.

After public buildings in Kibbutz Be'eri were demolished, residences where residents were murdered and kidnapped are now being torn down in the second phase of Gaza settlements' rehabilitation.

IDF probes will find numerous cases of friendly fire errors leading to tragic deaths and groups of IDF soldiers who were too hesitant to confront Hamas invaders.
