Portugal and Spain passed laws offering a naturalization process for descendants of Sephardic Jews, which has resulted in 90,000 descendants becoming citizens of these countries since 2015.

At the Fifth International Holocaust Forum, King Felipe mentioned that “Spain has a rich and complex Jewish past” but did not explicitly mention the expulsion of the Jews of Spain.

The bulk of applications came from Latin American countries, mainly Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela.

A "technical error" caused Sephardic Jewish applications for Spanish citizenship to be approved. "No new citizenship was granted," the Spsnish Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement.
