All of this was taking place just as Jerusalem and Beirut kicked off another round of direct talks in Washington addressing a wide range of issues.

“A nation cannot base its long-term strategy on a president who currently supports Israel,” Bennett said during a conversation with Jennifer Sutton.

Washington has issued a 60-day license allowing Iran to resume oil transactions, a step linked to diplomatic talks and already impacting global crude prices.

Gulf Arab leaders are expected to press Marco Rubio over a draft Iran agreement they fear could reshape regional security and boost Tehran’s power.

The talks in Switzerland may have calmed markets and lowered the volume for a day. They have not answered the question that matters: Is Iran being forced to retreat or merely being paid to pause?

Vance also said that a mechanism to ensure the ceasefire in the Middle East would last had been established, and that efforts were coordinated with Israel and Arab countries.

"We respect President Trump, but first of all, the soldiers of Israel, our fighters, our citizens. The security of Israel's civilians comes first," he said.

There is an interesting debate going on in Israel about when and where the country must listen to Trump imposing limits to maintain his support on other critical military and other issues.
