Wisconsin's largest mosque said Sarsour, 53, is a legal permanent resident who has lived in the US for over three decades and was detained on Monday. He grew up in the West Bank.

Jose Guadalupe Ramos, who was being held at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center, was found unconscious and unresponsive in his bunk by security staff, ICE said in a press release.

Under US law, refugees must apply for lawful permanent resident status within a year of their arrival in the country.

"We need more voices strongly condemning this taxpayer-funded antisemitism from the NYC Mayor’s office," US Representative Elise Stefanik said on X/Twitter.

Over 4,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended by the DHS since the operation began in November 2025.

The legislation would have provided $64.4 billion through September 30 to cover immigration enforcement and other functions handled by DHS, including airport security and disaster response.
