When inquired by KAN, Ohana's office responded: "It is unclear to us what is new about the Knesset speaker's consistent position that the Knesset will not meekly accept being trampled."

Petitioners challenged the Finance Committee’s authority to approve the funds during the election recess, while the Knesset and Finance Ministry argued that the proceedings were lawful.

The primaries come amid fierce internal tensions over changes that have expanded Netanyahu’s control over the party’s Knesset slate, which have made the primaries more competitive than in past years.

Ahead of Tuesday's hearing, the Knesset argued that Ohana lawfully authorized the disputed Finance Committee meeting despite opposition objections.

The committee approved a total of approximately NIS 1 billion in budget allocations for the Education Ministry, the Settlement and National Missions Ministry, and the Religious Services Ministry.
