Sde Teiman video leak shows abuse of Palestinian prisoners

The footage first became public when Israeli media aired segments in August 2024, describing alleged abuse of a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman detention facility in southern Israel. Coverage at the time noted US reaction and detailed allegations surrounding the prison conditions and oversight at the base, as previously reported by The Jerusalem Post.

Subsequent reporting examined claims of severe misconduct, including alleged sexual assault of a detainee, as prosecutors weighed evidence and investigators reviewed video material.

Earlier this month, the IDF’s top attorney, Maj.-Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, resigned following revelations tied to the leaked video, after Defense Minister Israel Katz announced her dismissal. Additional analysis described how the handling of the leaks became a political flashpoint while the legal process continued.

Related proceedings continued into November , including reports that the detainee at the center of the video was returned to Gaza as part of a hostage-release arrangement.

The High Court also moved to clarify who would lead aspects of the probe into the leaked video and related issues, and the Defense Ministry announced a new chief lawyer for the IDF amid the scandal.
