US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Israel on Tuesday afternoon and is slated to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials.

The visit comes ahead of reported talks between the United States and Iran in Istanbul scheduled for later this week, aimed at avoiding conflict and de-escalating tensions between the two sides.

Witkoff lands in Israel to meet with defense officials

A regional official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that some of the countries invited to the talks at the foreign ministers' level included Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

According to Reuters, the official said that the exact format of the meetings remained unclear, but that the "main meeting" is expected be held on Friday.

Israel believes Witkoff's arrival is an attempt by the Trump administration to understand Israel's red line on potential negotiations.
