The US designated the group on August 26, alleging it provided support to extremist activists and organizations through services including email accounts, websites, and communications tools.
"I wanted to protect the community, and that's what I did," said Shomrim volunteer Yonaton El-Kouby. "I was able to give something to the community today."
The attacks risked triggering a scramble for territory across Mali's vast desert north, raising the prospect of significant gains by armed groups.
The assaults are part of a surge by Boko Haram and its Islamic State splinter ISWAP, who have stepped up deadly attacks on military bases and villages in Nigeria's insurgency-hit northeast.

The incident occurred at 9.30 p.m. (GMT) on Friar Gate, a usually busy street in the city of Derby, with all victims suffering serious but not life-threatening injuries.
“Two further individuals were taken into police custody ... into the offenses committed against Bank of America,” the prosecutor’s office said.
"We are investigating this explosion," the spokesperson said. "The fire was immediately extinguished by security. We are reviewing footage and are calling on witnesses to contact the police."
The victim was identified as Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, killed after an IS-connected terrorist opened fire inside an Old Dominion University classroom, killing Shah and injuring two others.
Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, are accused of traveling from Pennsylvania with dangerous improvised explosive devices to Manhattan on Saturday.
The terror threat could be heightened by individuals acting alone or small cells acting on their own initiative, Europol spokesman Jan Op Gen Oorth said.
