Ahead of the Passover holiday, fast-food chains are preparing menus adapted for the holiday. They are also trying to offer moments of break and routine during this tense period.

In McDonald’s Israel, the chain is continuing this year with a dedicated Passover menu, including adapted versions of familiar dishes – such as the McRoyal and Double McRoyal on kosher-for-Passover buns, alongside nuggets with a special coating and adapted kids’ meals. The dishes will be offered both in branches and for delivery.

Alongside the menu, the chain is also trying to create an experiential activity for families during the holiday: A digital game called “Scanning the Treasure,” which will take place in dozens of malls across the country. As part of the activity, participants will be asked to locate QR codes scattered around the venues and scan them – with prizes including, among others, gaming consoles, smartphones, and various perks. The activity is expected to take place in accordance with Home Front Command guidelines.

“We chose this particular time to try to create moments of break for children and families,” said Korin Ketner, the chain’s Marketing VP, adding that the goal is “to take people out of the tense routine for a moment and offer a shared experience.”

Adaptations to Classic Dishes

Burger King is also launching a kosher-for-Passover menu, based on adaptations of the chain’s classic dishes – with an emphasis on preserving the original taste. The hamburgers will be served on potato flour buns, suitable also for those avoiding gluten, while chicken dishes will come with a matzah flour coating instead of breadcrumbs.

The menu will include, among other items, Whoppers in various versions, chicken dishes and schnitzels, full meals, and lighter options like salads. In addition, kids’ meals and sauces adapted for the holiday will be offered. The menu will be available at selected branches across the country throughout Passover.
