It took time, a lot of time – but now it’s official: Meta is finally launching a dedicated WhatsApp app for Apple’s smartwatch. For years, Apple Watch users had to make do with notifications only, without the ability to reply or read messages conveniently, while Android device owners enjoyed much wider integrations. Now, WhatsApp is closing the gap and launching a version that brings to Apple’s watch almost everything needed to communicate – even without the iPhone within reach.

The new app allows receiving notifications for calls and messages, reading full messages, viewing photos and stickers, and even replying – with a short text, reaction, or a voice message recorded directly from the watch. In addition, you can view part of the recent chat history, so you can follow the chat thread even when you’re on the go. The interface is designed according to the design language of watchOS and tailored specifically for the small screen, with an emphasis on readability and quick interaction.

Meta emphasizes that, as always, end-to-end encryption is maintained in the watch version as well – so messages, photos, and voice calls remain private and secure. The app is already available worldwide, including in Israel, and requires an Apple Watch Series 4 or newer running watchOS 10 or later.

This move is part of a broader trend by Meta to expand WhatsApp’s presence beyond the smartphone. Just recently, the official iPad version was launched, arriving after years of user requests, allowing video and audio calls to be made directly from the tablet. Together with the watch version, it seems that WhatsApp is gradually becoming a true cross-device service – one that accompanies the user on almost every possible screen.
