The new school year has begun, and the daily chase after pencil cases, backpacks, and supply lists becomes an exhausting routine. But then comes the real question: What will the kids eat for lunch? After all, we are also back to the routine of work, driving, and errands. Here comes Homemade, a daily delivery service of hot and healthy meals that has already won over thousands of families in Israel. Behind the initiative stands Rom Yariv, a young 24-year-old entrepreneur, who identified the real need: Not only tasty dishes – but free time.
“I realized that the problem for parents is not what to cook, but when,” says Rom Yariv. “We want to release parents from the race of cooking and washing dishes, so they can spend more time with their children.”
How does it actually work?
Twice a week, on the night between Sunday and Monday and between Tuesday and Wednesday, a courier places a cold-preserving cooler by the door. Inside, the meals are waiting – packed in convenient, clean, and organized containers. When the family wakes up in the morning, the meals are already there. The meals arrive chilled (not hot), after going through a cooking and rapid-freezing process to preserve freshness. They can be easily heated in the microwave – and within minutes, the food is ready.
And what about the taste? We tried it ourselves:
The food arrived clean, organized, and visually appealing. The dishes were rich and varied, combining classics that kids love – schnitzel, pasta, meatballs – alongside dishes suitable also for parents: Khreime gnocchi, asado pasta, or Bukharan oshpolo. The seasoning is mild and not overpowering, so even picky kids enjoy it. This is not a “cafeteria” – but pleasant homemade food that feels as if someone cooked for you with love.
The big advantage: the time that is freed up. No shopping, no cooking, and no washing pots – just a ready meal waiting for you after a workday. A convenient solution for the whole family, especially at the beginning of the school year.
