A stolen vehicle overturned and caught fire on Route 60 south of Jerusalem on Friday after the driver drove through a police roadblock, the Israel Police announced, blocking traffic in both directions near the community of Gad Natan.

Police set up the roadblock after receiving the report of the stolen vehicle, which at the time was fleeing from Jerusalem towards Gush Etzion.

Officers fired upon the vehicle as it drove through the roadblock. Following the crash, the driver was extracted from the vehicle and received medical treatment.

Firefighting teams worked to extinguish the blaze, with N12 reporting later on Friday that the driver, a 15-year-old West Bank resident, was arrested following the incident.

The stolen vehicle was seized after firefighters extinguished the blaze, and N12 said an investigation is ongoing.

Indictment filed over stolen IDF shoulder-fired MATADOR missile

The incident comes after indictments were filed earlier on Friday by the Haifa District State Attorney's Office against three men for stealing an IDF MATADOR shoulder-fired missile.

The men, who filmed themselves holding the weapon, were detained on separate occasions, with two arrested on September 5, and the third, a Palestinian resident of the West Bank, arrested on a later date.
