Yashar party leader and former IDF chief of staff, Gadi Eisenkot, denounced Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following US President Donald Trump's Tuesday announcement that the US will stop funding Israel after the end of 2026.
"The fact that the defense establishment, along with the citizens of Israel, learned of a shift in the strategic relationship through the media, demonstrates just how much Benjamin Netanyahu’s conduct poses a real danger," Eisenkot wrote on X/Twitter.
"He can no longer be trusted, and he must be replaced," he added.
"Once again, the prime minister of Israel is unable to look Israeli citizens in the eye and tell the truth. Netanyahu must provide answers to the citizens of Israel this very evening," Eisenkot stated.
"The special relationship with the US is a central component of Israel’s national security," he said.
Democrats Party leader and former IDF deputy chief of staff, Yair Golan, also denounced Netanyahu.
"Precisely at a time when Israel’s defense expenditures have reached enormous proportions, when the country needs to replenish its stocks of offensive weaponry, and when its air defense capabilities have been depleted following such a prolonged war, Netanyahu has notched yet another massive failure," Golan wrote on X.
Golan: 'Severe blow to Israel's security, quality of life'
"The cessation of American aid deals a severe blow to Israel’s security and the quality of life within the country, as the burden of funding defense needs at such a critical juncture will fall entirely upon the Israeli public," he added.
"A responsible Prime Minister would have fought to increase American aid, not dismantle it," he continued.
"Netanyahu is deepening the security and economic crisis, putting Israel’s future at risk," Golan said.
Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman also denounced Netanyahu, saying that the "price of Trump's endorsement" of the prime minister is "$3.8 billion per year."
