Israeli data-monitoring company Elementary Data is being acquired by American enterprise data and integration giant Boomi for some $45 million, according to an announcement by the latter on Monday.
This is Boomi's second acquisition of an Israeli startup this year, following its acquisition of Lunar.dev last July for an undisclosed sum, and its acquisition of Israeli firm Rivery in December 2024 for some $100 million.
Elementary Data develops a platform for monitoring data and its processing workflows that also integrates quality control, data usage management, and the organization's information catalog. Data teams use it to spot and handle failures before they harm business reports, models, and AI agents.
The company was founded in August 2021 by Maayan Shalom, who serves as CEO, and Or Avidov, the company's chief technology officer and head of product, both of whom are alumni of Unit 8200. Shalom previously managed cyber incident response projects at Sygnia, and Avidov served as an engineering manager at Singular.
The company's total funding reached some $8.5m. by the end of 2022, raised from investors such as TLV Partners, Cowboy Ventures, Y Combinator, and private investors, which enabled the hiring of its 17 employees in Israel. Under the acquisition agreement, they will now continue working under Boomi, which plans to expand its operations in Israel.
Elementary began by developing an open-source tool that integrates into data teams' workflows, and in 2024 it launched the enterprise product Elementary Cloud. Among its users are public technology companies Fiverr and Patagonia. According to the company's announcement, its technology is used by more than 1,500 data teams, and its open-source tool registers more than 1.1 million downloads per month, with a community numbering around 4,000 members. The commercial product and open-source project will continue to operate within Boomi.
Elementary's product monitors data flow and automatically identifies anomalies in its freshness, volume, and quality. It tracks the path of the data and the changes it has undergone down to the single column level, enabling teams to identify where a failure originated and which systems it impacts. This allows AI agents to make decisions and perform actions within the organization that will not lead to widespread erroneous business execution.
Alongside monitoring, Elementary centralizes data definitions, the identities of those responsible for them, and quality metrics in a shared catalog. Through an MCP server, it enables AI tools and agents to access this information so they can know what the data means and how much it can be trusted. Elementary's AI agents create quality tests, prioritize failures, and automatically execute tasks related to data usage policy and performance improvement. The integration into Boomi will expand control over data reliability across the organization, both when stored in data warehouses and when moving between applications and systems.
'We are just at the beginning of the road'
Maayan Shalom, CEO and co-founder of Elementary Data: "When AI agents perform actions rapidly based on data, the entire organization depends on data reliability. Boomi's global deployment and a network of more than 800 partners will enable us to make reliable data the default in the AI era. We are just at the beginning of the road."
Steve Lucas, chairman and CEO of Boomi: "Trusted artificial intelligence begins with trusted data. Elementary adds data monitoring, quality control, and usage management tools to our platform. These tools ensure that our customers' AI systems and agents operate on data upon which decisions and actions can be based in the organization. They also enable understanding where the data came from and what it means."
