Damascus condemned Israeli “attacks” on a village in the northern countryside of Quneitra province, Syrian state media said on Tuesday evening. The report at Syria’s SANA referred to a village called Tranja.

“The Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement that the Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns the Israeli attacks on its territory, which claimed the life of one person as his home was bombed in Tranja village of Quneitra countryside,” the report said.

The Syrians also condemned what they said were Israeli “infiltration and arrest campaigns” being carried out in another area of Quneitra, called Suwaysa, where they said Israeli forces had operated, and Israel’s “presence on the peak of Mount Hermon.” Israel took over the peak after the Assad regime fell in December 2024.

Criticisms from Abu Dhabi on Israeli actions

The UAE berated Israel’s actions too: “The UAE condemned in the strongest terms the dangerous Israeli escalation and Israeli military violations in Syrian territory.

The UAE affirmed its complete rejection of the violation of Syria’s sovereignty and the threat to its security and stability,” according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The UAE’s foreign ministry issued a statement slamming the “incursions.” Abu Dhabi said it has reiterated the “UAE’s unwavering support for Syria’s stability and sovereignty over all its territories, its support for the Syrian people, and its backing of all efforts aimed at achieving their aspirations for security, peace, a dignified life, peaceful coexistence, and development.”

The UAE says Israel is violating international law by operating in Syria in violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel, which the UAE says Israel is obliged to uphold. “The UAE called on the international community to take immediate action to halt the repeated attacks on Syrian territory and to stop the escalation and any actions that could heighten regional tensions and threaten regional and international peace and security,” Syria’s state media WAM noted.

The condemnations of Israel come as US officials have recently been in Damascus, and after US Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led a bipartisan delegation with Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) to Syria and met with President Ahmed al-Sharaa. She met with Sharaa along with US Envoy Tom Barrack. Barrack then traveled to Lebanon.
