Israel's security cabinet will meet on Sunday at 6 p.m. to discuss the opening of Gaza's Rafah Crossing

The US and its mediators announced that the crossing would open on Monday for the entry of Gazans. Previously, Israel had agreed to open the crossing for the exit of Palestinians from Gaza, but Egypt had opposed the idea.

In recent weeks, Israel has stated that without the return of slain hostage Ran Gvili, the crossing would not be opened for Palestinians.

Notably, on Thursday, the Prime Minister's Office released a statement that effectively decoupled the two issues; sources claim the cabinet will decide on this matter.

Senior ministers told The Jerusalem Post that the crossing cannot open until slain hostage Ran Gvili's body is returned.

Witkoff, Kushner, Netanyahu hold 'constructive' talks, aligned on next steps

The United States and Israel are closely aligned on the next steps in the Gaza Strip, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff said in a Sunday post on X/Twitter.

US delegates held "constructive and positive" talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, focused on the rollout of Phase II of the Trump-backed Gaza peace plan, Witkoff said.

The US representatives for the talks were Trump's son-in-law and envoy, Jared Kushner, Witkoff, Senior Advisor Aryeh Lightstone, and White House advisor Josh Gruenbaum.

Witkoff noted that both sides are aligned "on next steps and the importance of continued cooperation on all matters critical to the region."

On Saturday, senior US officials told the Post that Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Israel to review key issues with the prime minister regarding Gaza.

“The administration is working closely with Netanyahu and his team to recover the body of Ran Gvili, and we are in close coordination on this matter," one official told the Post

Trump’s envoys reportedly discussed the next steps regarding the demilitarization of Gaza and “what needs to be done to ensure that the ceasefire turns into long-term peace in Gaza,” the senior American officials said.

Notably, the US administration has set the next 100 days as the target date for Hamas's disarmament. Western diplomats told the Post that progress is also expected this week on the establishment of a multinational force.
