Russia ignored ongoing US peace efforts by attacking Ukraine's energy sector overnight on Tuesday, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky

He stated that Kyiv would reach out to US officials to discuss the consequences for Russia following the attack.

During a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Zelensky said they discussed the need for rapid air-defense supplies and licenses for US weapons production in Europe.

However, he did not indicate whether any progress was made in those discussions.

Waiting on a US response

In his nightly video address, President Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine was awaiting a response from the US regarding Russia's recent attacks, which caused further damage to the country’s energy infrastructure.

"We expect a response from the United States to the Russian strikes," he said. "It was America's proposal to halt strikes on energy infrastructure during diplomatic efforts and the cold winter period."

Zelenskiy said Ukraine had been expected to make concessions, but it was also up to Russia to make concessions, mainly "to stop the aggression".

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters at the White House that US President Donald Trump was unsurprised about Russia's latest attack on Ukraine, saying she spoke with him about the attack earlier on Tuesday.
