US President Donald Trump said that he will no longer impose tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1, in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday.

This was "Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region," Trump wrote.

"This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations," he noted.

"Additional discussions are being held concerning The Golden Dome as it pertains to Greenland. Further information will be made available as discussions progress," he added.

At the Davos WEF, Trump said that America is seeking talks to discuss the acquisition of Greenland, and ruled out the use of military force to take the country.

Trump: US 'seeking immediate negotiations to discuss acquisition of Greenland' at Davos WEF

“And that’s the reason I’m seeking immediate negotiations to once again discuss the acquisition of Greenland by the United States, just as we have acquired many other territories throughout our history, as many of the European nations have.”

Notably, several European leaders expressed their concern that Trump's desire to acquire Greenland would lead to war between the US and the European Union.

“All the United States is asking for is a place called Greenland," Trump said, noting that he believes that would mean full US ownership of the currently autonomous region of Denmark.

“All we’re asking for is to get Greenland, including right title and ownership, because you need the ownership to defend it. You can’t defend it on a lease.”

On Tuesday, Trump shared  texts sent to him by Rutte regarding his intent to acquire Greenland, and stated that the two had had a "very good telephone" about the topic.

"As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for National and World Security. There can be no going back - On that, everyone agrees!" Trump wrote.
