The Israel Cancer Association (ICA) will launch its annual “Knock on the Door” program on Monday, October 27th, to raise funds and spread awareness about cancer in Israel.
“The campaign is a symbol of support and mutual commitment in the community, in which thousands of students, youth movement members, and volunteers throughout the country go door to door and raise donations that will help continue the fight against cancer,” explained the association.
According to its estimate, there are currently 330,000 patients and survivors living in Israel who are undergoing treatment or monitoring. In addition, each year approximately 34,000 new cancer patients are diagnosed in Israel, including around 500 children.
The most commonly diagnosed cancers in the country are breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, and colon cancer. For children, the most common cancer is leukaemia.
Israel Cancer Association: A non-profit that survives from donations
The ICA's "Knock on the Door" is an annual fundraising effort spanning back years, which helps ensure the future of the publicly-funded organization.
“Thanks to public donations, the association works to promote research, prevention methods, early diagnosis, and improvement of treatment and rehabilitation measures for patients and those recovering, and operates a system of services and support for children and adults with cancer and their families,” read a statement by the association.
“The association funds Blue and White research, operates a hostel for patients from the periphery, assists in mentoring sick children, and is a leading factor in promoting national programs for the early diagnosis of common cancers,” it added.
Moshe Bar Haim, CEO of the ICA, said: "Cancer touches every family, and each of us has at least one close person who is struggling. Every donation is essential and is intended to continue the fight.”
Alongside the campaign, the ICA receives donations through its website and operates a 24/7 staffed fundraising center, which can be reached toll-free at 1-800-35-46-46.
