A Jewish man was doused with tear gas outside a Kyiv synagogue on Saturday, according to the Chabad Kyiv Jewish Community in Obolon and the United Jewish Community of Ukraine.

A group of young men reportedly approached the Obolon Synagogue after noon.

When a congregant came out of the synagogue, they allegedly sprayed him with pepper spray and fled. The Jewish man was left with irritated eyes and skin.

The Chabad chapter said that the "brutal antisemitic attack" overshadowed sabbath observance.

"This was a deliberate, cruel and prepared antisemitic act!" Chabad said on Facebook.

Youths shouted antisemitic slogans

The incident reportedly followed another confrontation on Friday, in which youths approached the synagogue and shouted antisemitic slogans at the rabbi.

Ukrainian Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
