In a festive ceremony on Nahariya’s shoreline, the Municipality of Nahariya, together with members of the Strauss family, launched the renovation and upgrade project of the municipal marina, which will carry the name of the Nahariya industrialist Michael Strauss – known as one of the pillars of Israeli industry across generations and an avid lover of the sea.

The memorial project was initiated by Michael’s sister, Raya Strauss-Ben Dror, together with her son Rani and Michael’s three children – Ofra, Irit, and Adi.

Thanks to their financial contribution and in collaboration with the Bloomberg-Sagol Center, a significant investment is underway to establish an advanced facility for marine education and sports at a national level, based on the city’s long-standing maritime tradition, in which Michael Strauss himself had participated as a student and instructor.

The Strauss family are among the founders of Nahariya: His parents, Dr. Richard and Hilda Strauss, established the agricultural settlement, and in their home yard operated a dairy that eventually became the Strauss food conglomerate.

Today, Nahariya is a city that has cultivated generations of sailors along its unique coastline.

The renewed complex will include fully equipped classrooms, seating areas, a staff room, administrative offices, a kitchen, a meeting room, changing rooms, restrooms, and a balcony for extracurricular activities. Outside, there will be boat storage, operational warehouses, and maintenance facilities.

Additionally, a special memorial wall will be installed on the site to tell the story of Nahariya’s immigrants, commemorating their memory, legacy, and contribution to strengthening the Galilee and the state.
