New Free Image Editing Options: Google's AI app, Gemini, is adding advanced image editing options. Among other features, users can now change characters’ outfits and backgrounds, as well as combine characters from different images into a single image without altering their faces, as often happens in other AI models.
Google explains that one of the challenges of AI-based image editing is inconsistent repetitions of characters, which can make the final image look unnatural. Gemini’s new update aims to address this issue, ensuring that even when new elements are added, the original character remains unchanged in appearance and features.
With the new tool, users can upload an existing image and request modifications, ranging from background replacement to adding accessories or clothing items. Additionally, multiple images can be combined to create a single scene, for example, merging a photo of a person with a photo of a pet so they appear together in the same situation.
Another feature is multi-stage editing: A user can start with an empty room, change the wall color, add furniture, and later continue editing additional parts of the same scene.
The app also offers the option to combine designs and styles: For instance, using the texture of a flower to create a clothing item, or applying a pattern from one image to an object in another image. Beyond static editing, users can re-upload a modified image and request Gemini to turn it into a short video, making the result dynamic.
This current update complements the editing tools launched earlier this year. Google notes that the development relied on user feedback to enhance the editing experience and simplify the process so it does not require prior professional knowledge.
Gemini continues to compete with other popular editing apps, with the significant advantage of integrating advanced AI technologies into a user-friendly interface, offering numerous image editing options without distorting or altering characters’ faces.
