Starlink’s satellite internet service is now available in Israel, along with the coverage map and prices. Elon Musk’s company has begun marketing its reception router and external antenna. Upload and download speeds are relatively high, but the prices are certainly not cheap.

Israel’s connection to Elon Musk’s satellite internet service was made possible after the Communications Ministry granted Starlink the required license in 2024, following the completion of the necessary coordination with the company. According to the coverage map published by the company, connections can be activated throughout the country, though not in areas of the Palestinian Authority.

Starlink’s satellite internet is based on a constellation of thousands of small satellites launched into space by SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk. The satellites orbit the Earth at relatively low altitude and make it possible to provide high-speed internet even in places without fiber-optic or copper cable infrastructure. Starlink currently operates in more than 70 countries worldwide, including the United States, Canada, Australia, European nations, and South America.

The system includes a unique antenna installed on the customer’s roof or yard, which connects to Starlink’s satellite network. The antenna delivers a direct link to a modem and router inside the building, allowing either wireless or wired high-speed browsing. According to the company’s data, download speeds in Israel range between 150 and 250 Mbps, while upload speeds reach 10 to 30 Mbps. Latency varies between 20 and 40 milliseconds, which is relatively impressive for satellite-based technology.

Satellite internet is especially suitable for remote areas, isolated communities, open fields without infrastructure, emergency institutions, and private or business customers seeking a backup for their existing internet. The service is also expected to serve as a temporary or permanent solution in emergencies where communication infrastructure is damaged, such as natural disasters, cyberattacks, or missile strikes that disrupt communications.

Although it is an innovative solution, the service is relatively costly: The basic connection kit, which includes the antenna and related equipment, costs NIS 1,500, and the current monthly subscription fee starts at NIS 230, depending on the chosen plan. Customers interested in the service can order it through the company’s Israeli website.
