After years of waiting by shopping enthusiasts — including many Israelis who know the chain from trips in Europe — the fashion chain Primark opened yesterday (May 28) its first branch in Hungary. The new store is located on the second floor of the Arena Plaza mall in Budapest, and spans an area of about 3,100 m².
Upon opening, the store was warmly received by both local customers and tourists alike, and is already defined as one of the city’s prominent retail attractions.
Primark, founded in Ireland in 1969 under the name “Penneys,” is an international fashion chain currently operating in 17 countries, employing over 80,000 workers worldwide. The company specializes in affordable fashion and offers a wide range of clothing items for women, men, children, and babies — alongside personal care products, home design, and fashion accessories.
The store in Budapest offers a spacious and comfortable shopping experience, with well-organized departments, modern design, and a rich selection of products — from summer dresses and everyday clothing, through printed shirts of rock bands such as Nirvana, AC/DC, and The Doors, to items from the worlds of Disney, Pokémon, Sonic, and Marvel. Among the prominent departments are underwear, sleepwear, swimwear, toy department, cosmetics, jewelry, women’s shoes, accessories for the warm season, as well as a home design section including items such as pillows, blankets, and wall pictures.
Similar to the chain’s other branches, the new store in Budapest operates within the company’s sustainability strategy — Primark Cares — which includes ambitious goals until 2030: Producing all clothing from recycled or sustainable sources, reducing carbon emissions by 50%, and promoting a living wage for workers in the supply chain.
The new branch is located in one of the city’s central malls, with easy access to public transportation and a large parking lot, and is expected to become a key attraction point for shopping enthusiasts — both locals and tourists alike.
