SPHERA Eilat operates more like a high-end Airbnb than a traditional hotel, and for many visitors, that’s exactly the appeal. The apartment-style suites offer the freedom to come and go without dealing with reception desks or formal check-in procedures – though security remains on-site at all times for peace of mind.

The accommodations themselves are genuinely impressive. The suites are bright, beautifully decorated, and spacious enough for families or groups to spread out comfortably.

Each unit comes equipped with quality amenities, including smart TVs, Nespresso machines, and thoughtfully designed furniture that feels both stylish and functional. The apartments range from 33 to 52 square meters, with views overlooking either Eilat’s beaches or the dramatic Edom Mountains of Jordan.

The complex’s position within the Sea Side project, on the grounds of the former legendary Sunset Hotel, delivers on one of its biggest selling points: location. Situated directly opposite Mul-Hayam Mall and just steps from the beach and promenade, guests can easily enjoy a car-free vacation with everything within walking distance.

The seven-story building maintains an intimate scale, and you won’t feel lost among crowds of tourists. During our September visit, even the pool area felt relaxed and uncrowded, with plenty of space around the main pool and the smaller children’s pool for families to enjoy.

Behind SPHERA lies a compelling personal story. Col. (res.) Shimon Amir, who was called up for duty on October 7 and wounded in battle in Khan Yunis, channeled his post-service energy into creating this vacation complex. “I wanted to create a place where families would feel a real vacation, a place where parents and children are together, without giving up comfort, design, quality, and also at a fair price,” Amir explained.

The complex’s opening was originally planned for Simhat Torah evening but was postponed due to the outbreak of the war with Hamas. During the difficult months that followed, SPHERA served evacuated families from the South before finally opening to the general public. This history adds depth to what Amir describes as both “a business vision” and “a personal mission.”

Gaps in amenities, less than stellar location

There are notable gaps in traditional hotel amenities, if that is what one is searching for. There’s no restaurant on-site, which could be inconvenient for some guests. The hotel name isn’t prominently displayed anywhere, which can make initial navigation tricky since it’s housed within a larger facility.

For families wanting flexibility, though, these missing pieces might actually be a plus. The apartment-style setup encourages guests to explore Eilat’s restaurant scene or prepare simple meals in-suite, while the location puts numerous dining options within easy walking distance. Two delicious, kosher restaurants are located right outside the hotel.

SPHERA delivers on what it promises: luxury vacation apartments that won’t break the bank. With rates starting at NIS 850 per night for September-October, it offers genuine value for families wanting space, comfort, and location without traditional hotel constraints.

Amir’s vision of putting “your family at the center” comes through in the practical details: spacious layouts, kid-friendly amenities like the children’s pool, and the freedom to vacation at your own pace. The complex feels less like a hotel and more like a temporary home base for exploring Eilat, which, for many families, is exactly what makes for a perfect vacation.
