Could Israel and the US achieve victory over Iran? An expert weighs in

Shmuel Rosner, a senior fellow at the Jewish People Policy Institute, shared his perspective on Israel’s current war with Iran in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.

Rosner explained that this conflict is unprecedented for Israel, marking the first time the country is engaging in a war with a distant nation. The cooperation with the United States in this context is also unique, with Israeli and American pilots operating together.

The conversation highlighted the range of possible outcomes for the war, from regime change in Iran to the complete eradication of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The expert stressed that a victory could involve removing enriched uranium from Iran’s territory, while a negative outcome would involve Iran maintaining its nuclear capabilities and regional influence.

Rosner noted the difficulty in predicting the war’s trajectory, acknowledging the significant role the US plays in supporting Israel but also pointed out that differing national perspectives on military intervention may create strategic gaps.

The discussion also addressed Israel's relationship with the US. Rosner stated that Israel has more confidence in President Trump’s administration, particularly regarding military action, as opposed to the Biden administration, which is more cautious in its approach.

He emphasized that the stakes are high, particularly with the possibility of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, which would ignite a nuclear arms race in the region.

Looking to the future, Rosner mentioned that while some Israelis are apprehensive about the war’s pace and the absence of a clear plan, there remains broad public support for the war, especially the goal of regime change in Iran and preventing it from achieving nuclear weapon capabilities.
