Taylor Swift on Monday announced that she has written a new song titled I Knew It, I Knew You, which will be featured in Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 later this month.
“I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5-year-old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” Swift wrote on social media, noting that she saw the unreleased film in its early stages and “fell in love.”
“I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?” she wrote.
According to director Andrew Stanton, Swift’s song was inspired by Jessie, the female leader of the famous gang of toys.
“It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song,” Stanton said.
“Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story. So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet.”
'I Knew It, I Knew You' will be a return to Swift's country roots
The song was reportedly co-written and produced by Swift and her frequent collaborator and friend, Jack Antonoff, marking their first collaboration since her 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department.
The song is also said to be a return to Swift's country roots, just in time for the 20th anniversary of her debut single, Tim McGraw.
The singer collaborated with Disney and Pixar to tease the song ahead of its announcement, as fans noticed Toy Story-themed billboards with the letters ‘TS’ and 13 clouds in the days before the confirmation.
Pixar also shared footage of Jessie dancing on one of the billboards with the caption “She’s making the moves up as she goes!” referencing Swift’s hit song Shake It Off.
