A Pennsylvanian man was hospitalized earlier this month after his dog allegedly fired a shotgun into his back, according to the Shillington Police Department.
Police said they received a report at 11:13 p.m. on November 11 that a man suffered a gunshot wound to his back.
While traveling to the scene, officials said they were told the dog "jumped onto the bed and set the gun off."
The gunshot victim was found conscious, lying on the floor, police described.
Investigating the shooting
The owner told responding officials that he had been cleaning his shotgun and had placed it on the bed, "at which time one of his dogs jumped onto the bed," setting off the weapon.
Only the victim, his son, and the two dogs are understood to have been home at the time of the shooting. The son was allegedly in a different room when the gun went off.
The victim was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to treat the bullet injuries.
