A pro-Palestinian protester running down the closed lane for cyclists during the Tour de France was thrown back over the barrier by event security, according to footage that circulated on social media last Wednesday.
Only meters from the finish line, the protester ran with a keffiyeh in hand and “Israel out of the Tour" written across his shirt.
The now viral moment has quickly spread online and throughout international media, as people are heavily divided on the altercation.
After launching the demonstrator across the barricade, the staff member can be seen throwing his walkie-talkie at the protester.
Protests against Israeli participation in sporting events
Despite the protester’s shirt calling for Israel to be excluded from the race, Israel's Premier-Tech team had not sent a representative to compete this year, according to The Sun.
Earlier this year, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement labeled Israel’s team “Team Genocide” and called for demonstrations across several sporting events, including the Tour de France.
"We call for more peaceful protests than ever along the routes of cycling races where Team Genocide is participating, including the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España,” the group’s statement read.
