An exciting science fair will be hitting Israel from 4 p.m. on the evening of Thursday, September 18 with events hosted across the country.

There will be over 200 events for people of all ages running throughout the evening across eight locations - Madatech, Migal, Oranim, Al-Qasemi, Hebrew University, Carasso Science Park, the Weizmann Institute of Science, and Bloomfield Science Museum.

The European Researchers’ Night 2025 will be running across Europe on September 26, but it is being held in Israel a week early. It aims to bring scientific research closer to the public eye and ignite a passion for science in young people.

With a range of activities, from hands-on workshops to lectures and performances, the European Researchers’ Night 2025 is the event to attend regardless of your age or level of scientific knowledge.

Magical mathematics

Starting at 7 p.m., an exciting adventure into mathematics, led by Dr. Yossi Elran of the Weizmann Institute, will prove through a fun and captivating blend of card tricks, number tricks, and lightning-fast calculations that there is more to math than endless lessons, questions, and homework.

For 45 minutes, Dr. Eltran will help you grow your love for the subject and captivate the curiosity that spurs so many mathematicians on. With satisfying sequences, creative calculations, and pretty patterns, he will open your eyes to the endless worlds that math can create.

The beauty of surgery

Throughout the evening, Ms. Hava Noy from Madatech will lead an Anatomage Table session, allowing participants to experience being a surgeon in 3D. Using a digitized human body, you will learn like a medical student about fascinating human biology, just as a medical student would.

Ms. Noy will empower both children and adults to experience what it's like to be a surgeon. Regardless of your level of knowledge, she aims to open your mind to the wonders of the human body and help empower a future generation of surgeons.

Delicious chemistry

Drop in from 5 to 10 p.m. to join Yazan Kadan of Al-Qasemi University – with some dry ice and exciting chemistry, he will teach you to make a delicious serving of ice cream that is sure to sweeten your evening.

Mixing delicious food and fascinating science, his fun workshop will offer a nice refreshing break from lectures and demonstrations. You will gain hands-on experience in chemistry that is sure to ignite your passion.

Sanctions threaten stability

In recent months, EU member countries have been pushing for a decrease in collaboration with Israel and Israeli institutions, something that could heavily affect science and innovation.

In an August open letter addressed to the EU, it called among other things for the withdrawal from “joint research agreements with Israeli institutions and research bodies.” In light of these sanctions, the European Researchers’ Night holds extra significance this year.
