"America and Israel think they can overthrow us with these pressures, but we will overcome all problems with strength," Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Qatari state-funded broadcaster Al Jazeera on Sunday.
"We will die, but we will not bow our heads," he said, adding that "America's next plan is to sow discord among Iranian officials."
"The US and Israel openly state that they want to destroy Iran; we are brothers with Islamic nations and must not allow the US to sow discord among us," he claimed.
Earlier on Saturday, Pezeshkian told Al Jazeera that the Islamic regime "no longer trusts talks with Washington."
“Those who thought they could target the Iranian people with sanctions miscalculated,” said Pezeshkian, following remarks he made at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, where he accused US President Donald Trump of being a "bully."
Pezeshkian said Tehran lacks trust in talks with Washington because talks "had repeatedly been followed by US attacks and sanctions."
Pezeshkian added that Iranians “stood firm in the face of American and Israeli attacks," and added that they "will continue to stand firm.”
He further claimed that the United States and Israel sought to “prevent Iran from relying on itself,” with the two countries having “dragged” nations in the region into the conflict, believing Iran “would fall within days,” Iran International reported.
The Iranian president argued that security in the region should only come through "cooperation among its countries,” blaming the US for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, referring to the country as an unneeded "policeman."
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi: 'We have never closed the door to diplomacy'
"No one can accuse the Islamic Republic of failing to explore the diplomatic path," Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi added, speaking to Iranian state media IRNA on Saturday night. "We have never closed the door to diplomacy and negotiations, yet we have never compromised on our rights."
Araghchi said that Iran's main focus during negotiations with the US was on articulating the conditions set by the National Security Council for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, IRNA reported.
"We will not back down from our conditions," he added. "Opening the Strait of Hormuz is contingent upon meeting these conditions."
"Only a negotiated solution can lead them out of this impasse. This is our position," he told IRNA.
Araghchi added that Iran was waiting to hear final decisions from the US, explaining that although US President Donald Trump has publicly rejected the Iranian proposal, "nothing has been officially conveyed" to the Iranians.
Pezeshkian: Iran can mediate between Yemen's Houthis, Saudi Arabia
Regarding Saudi Arabia's conflict with Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis, Pezeshkian suggested Iran could act as an intermediary between the two parties, Iran International reported.
Earlier on Saturday, Yemen's Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted two ballistic missiles and two drones launched by the Iran-backed Houthis towards the kingdom.
Neither Saudi Arabia nor Yemen has commented on Pezeshkian's offers to mediate.
