The Iranian army downed an Israeli spying and surveillance drone in the Hormozgan province, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Sunday, as expectations rose that a memorandum of understanding regarding a peace deal between Iran and the US could be imminent.

The wreckage of a shattered Orbiter drone, an Israeli product, was discovered in cooperation with Iranian naval forces, the agency claimed.

Iran agrees in theory to deal to get rid of enriched Uranium

This comes amid negotiations for an emerging 60-day ceasefire deal between the US and Iran.

A US official told reporters on Sunday that Iran has agreed in principle to a proposal that would include disposing of highly enriched uranium.

The administration official told reporters that there was a "broad commitment" on the principles of the documents, and that the Trump team feels positive about where negotiations stand.

In the briefing to reporters, White House officials told reporters that they did not expect a deal to be reached on Sunday and believed that Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei would take several days to approve any deal.

The semi-official IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported on the ongoing negotiations, claiming they were still at risk of collapsing.

"Iran has emphasized that it will not fall short of its red lines for the realization of people's rights," Tasnim declared.
