The Syrian regime thwarted several weapons smuggling attempts by Hezbollah recently, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Friday night in a congratulatory post.
“Congratulations to Syria’s security forces for recently interdicting multiple weapons shipments,” CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said. “These shipments were intended for Hizbollah.
“The United States and our regional partners have a shared interest in ensuring the disarmament of Lebanese Hizbollah and in preserving peace and stability across the Middle East.”
Israel-Hezbollah conflict
The announcement comes as Washington has pushed for increased dialogue between Damascus and Jerusalem under Ahmed al-Sharaa’s governance.
Hezbollah joined the Iran-backed attacks against the Jewish state on October 8, 2023, a day after Hamas's invasion.
Despite the current ceasefire in place, Israel and Hezbollah have continued to complain of the other violating the terms of the agreement.
