Eleven IDF soldiers were wounded in Gaza City on Monday when an estimated number of five Hamas terrorists infiltrated a military position there.
The incident began at around 5:25 p.m., when Hamas terrorists activated two improvised explosive devices against a tank.
They then engaged in close-range weapons fire with IDF soldiers from a mixed armed forces attack group, including the 82nd Battalion.
Five soldiers were wounded in the initial battle round. At least two of the Hamas terrorists were also killed.
The army is trying to pursue another estimated three Hamas members who fled the scene.
Six soldiers hurt during rescue attempt
Six more soldiers were hurt by smoke and other secondary hazards during the process of rescuing the five soldiers who were originally wounded.
All of the severely wounded soldiers were eventually brought to medical centers.
Among the wounded are a medical officer, a tank officer, and three other tank crew members.
