Fauda will not film a major part of its fifth season in Marseilles as planned due to “security issues,” N12 reported on Monday.

Filming for the new season will take place soon in Budapest, according to a source close to the production, who was quoted in the report.

Much of the new season of the thriller series about a counterterrorism unit – starring Lior Raz and co-created by Raz and Avi Issacharoff – that became a global hit was meant to take place in France.

The fifth season will introduce a new character played by French actress Mélanie Laurent, who starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.

'The Nukhba is located in Marseille'

In the season five trailer, Eli (Yaakov Zada-Daniel), a member of the unit, says, “The Nukhba is located in Marseilles.” There is a shot of the Marseilles harbor and other references to France in the trailer, which will apparently have to be changed.

Raz and Issacharoff reportedly rewrote the scripts for the new season following October 7 to include the massacre by Hamas and the war. The fifth season will premiere on Yes in Israel in 2026 and, following that, will become available worldwide on Netflix.
