Alon Cohen, a member of the popular 1980s Israeli band Nosei Hamigbaat (The Hatters), passed away at 55, former band member Tamir Albert announced on Friday.
Albert shared on Facebook a screenshot of a conversation he had with Cohen’s sister, confirming that the musician passed away in New York.
Israeli media reported that Cohen’s body was discovered after three days at his New York apartment. It is currently understood that he died following a heart attack.
“I don’t even know what to write. I’m in shock,” Albert wrote. “Alon Cohen, the drummer of Nosei Hamigbaat, whom I’ve known since I was 16, has passed away.”
“I can’t believe this is happening,” he shared.
Nosei Hamigbaat, and Cohen's relocation to New York
Cohen had been the drummer in the Jerusalem-based rock band, founded in 1984, a band formed by students of the Jerusalem High School of the Arts.
The group disbanded in 1992 following a disagreement on creative directions, according to N12. Cohen would later travel to New York, where he founded the 12 Tribe Sound label.
