Iconic Israeli musician and songwriter Matti Caspi has reached out to his fans asking for help to pay for medication in his ongoing battle with cancer. In May, Caspi went public, announcing on social media that he had advanced cancer with metastases throughout his body.
This week, he disclosed that the treatments had failed and had forced him to use morphine to fight the pain. “Most of the treatments that are essential for me are not included in the health basket, and I find myself in need of financial assistance to finance the treatments and medications,” he wrote on social media.
“Today I am in a situation I never imagined I would be in – alongside dealing with illness, I am struggling with thoughts and finding it difficult to finance the treatment that may save my life. I never thought I would reach such a place.
“This is the first time in my life that I’m standing in front of you, and I admit that I need you since the country doesn’t recognize me as an oncological patient and refuses to approve me [for] medical help,” he added.
An appeal for help
Caspi then appealed to his fans for assistance. “I devoted my whole life to music, to my audience, to the people around me and to the work that has become an integral part of your lives. For almost six decades, I have shared with you my thoughts, dreams, and songs that were born from the heart and became the soundtrack of my life,” he wrote.
“All I want is to keep living, creating, writing, singing, and keep being here. If my songs have ever touched you, if you’ve felt connected to the music I’ve been creating over the years, I’m turning to you now from deep in my heart and asking for your support.”
