The documentary We Will Dance Again, which chronicles the massacre of more than 370 people at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, won the Emmy for Outstanding Current Affairs Documentary at the 46th News and Documentary Emmy Awards in New York.

The harrowing and thought-provoking documentary tells the story of the massacre through interviews with survivors and through video and audio clips made by them, victims, and the terrorists themselves.

Accepting the award on Thursday night, the film’s director, Yariv Mozer, said, “As of tonight, it’s been 620 days that the Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza have experienced a catastrophic pain because of the war triggered by Hamas on October 7. We Will Dance Again is a document of history recording events as they happened.”

Mozer wore a yellow hostage pin at the ceremony and said that the movie was dedicated to the “safe and immediate return” of all the hostages in Gaza, adding, “We want this cycle of bloodshed to end. This war should end. This war should not serve the interests of the Israeli government and the Hamas terror group.”

He also spoke about Michal Weits, one of the movie’s producers, who was injured in an Iranian missile attack in Tel Aviv last week. She had taken shelter in the safe room of her house with her husband and children when the missile hit. “Michal is hospitalized and we wish her a full recovery,” he said.

The director was joined onstage by Yuval Siman-Tov and Tamir Leshetz, two of the Nova survivors interviewed in the documentary, as well as Natalia Casarotti, the mother of Keshet Casarotti-Kalfa, a 21-year-old who was murdered at the festival. Images of Keshet, who was a fixture on the trance music scene, have become a symbol of the tragedy of the massacre.

The documentary has won previous awards

The Television Academy in the US, the organization that presents the Emmys, awarded a Television Academy Honor to We Will Dance Again in May. It also won an award at the Documentary Edge Festival in 2024.
