Israel Railways announced on Sunday that train service between Tel Aviv and Lod was gradually returning to normal after being temporarily suspended due to a localized fault in the railway's electrification network.
The company said its crews were working to restore normal service as quickly as possible and recommended that passengers consider using alternative means of transportation in the meantime.
Last week, Israel Railways announced that a fire in the Be'er Ya'acov area had temporarily halted train service between Lod, Rehovot and Ashkelon, as well as between Lod and Rishon Lezion HaRishonim.
The disruption also caused delays and service changes affecting trains serving the Ashkelon, Ashdod Ad Halom Metropol, Yavne East, Be'er Ya'acov, Lod and Rishon Lezion HaRishonim stations.
Israel's firefighters ill-equipped to fight fires from electric bikes, scooters on trains, IFR commissioner says
Israeli Fire and Rescue (IFR) Commissioner Eyal Caspi warned that Israel's firefighters are ill-equipped to extinguish fires in electric vehicles at the Association for the Promotion of Fire Safety's main fire and safety conference in May.
He warned that a fire starting within a train car due to the charging of electric bikes and scooters may pose extra risks to passengers, saying the car can fill with smoke and become a death trap in seconds.
Caspi noted that Israel Railways had begun an advertising campaign encouraging passengers to charge their electric bikes and scooters on trains, but the IFR shut it down because the risk of thermal runaway increases during charging.
