Former defense minister Benny Gantz on Monday became the most senior Israeli official to date to explicitly call for Israel to topple the Iranian regime of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Gantz said that the current opportunity, in which the regime is weak and the population is up in arms, might not recur.

"We cannot blink or hesitate - Israel is obligated to prepare for the possibility of attacking very soon," said the former defense minister.

Gantz warns Netanyahu over Iran regime

Gantz was so adamant that Israel and the US act to end the Iranian regime's rule that he suggested Netanyahu should even fly back to Washington only days after having returned from a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida, all in order to ensure that Jerusalem and America make concrete moves in this moment.

He warned that Netanyahu cannot allow the regime to defeat its people's popular protest again, as it has so many times since 2009.
