A fire broke out in a nine-story residential building on Konditon Street in Ashkelon on Tuesday morning, Magen David Adom (MDA) reported.

Eleven people were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Barzilai Hospital. Among them were a 34-year-old woman and two children around three years old in moderate condition. Eight others were reported in mild condition.

MDA teams were on site to assist with firefighting operations and provide medical care as needed.

Ashkelon at high risk of flash floods

Ashkelon firefighters rescued approximately eight civilians from their cars, trapped in floods across the city after a night of heavy rainfall, the Fire and Rescue Authority said in November.

As Storm Byron nears its peak in Israel, flood risks are particularly high along the coastal plain and in low-lying areas.

Strong winds are expected along the coast and in mountainous areas, as rainfall gradually extends into the Negev. Flash flood warnings were also issued for the Judean Desert and Dead Sea region.
